Description
Rani, an ageing movie star, still bears the financial responsibility for most of her family, reflecting her former affluence. To manage, she rents out rooms to younger stars for trysts but finds herself at the centre of a media scandal when the husband of one catches her. In the ensuing publicity, Rani’s own carefully built life unravels, forcing her to come to terms with her past.

Prasanna Vithanage, whose previous films have been largely concerned with Sri Lanka’s ethnic conflict, turns the camera on his own world, the film industry, with a project he has long wanted to realise with ‘the queen of Sri Lankan cinema’, Malini Fonseka. ‘She took the role and made it personal, intimate and autobiographical—colouring it with shades only she could bring’ (director’s statement) in her subtle portrayal of the complexities of fame and career choices, and the ensuing relationships with family.
